Make Your Life Easier

LifeI am sitting here listening to a variety of music (a daily and rabid occurrence for me) and drifted off into thoughts of how we can make life a bit easier to handle.  So, I slipped away into a stream-of-consciousness way of thinking and came up with these 10 ways to make life easier:

  1. Know the difference between your true family and the rest of your family. This knowledge will save you a lot of heartbreak.
  2. Know that most “friends” you have are merely acquaintances. All of us actually have only a handful of people who meet the true definition of friend. Knowing the difference between acquaintances and true friends will save you a lot of heartbreak.
  3. Make life easier on other people. Always keep in mind this quote (my favorite quote of all time) by Philo of ancient Alexandria, “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
  4. Know that life is way, way harder than you ever imagined as a child. By keeping this perspective you will take loads of weight off of your shoulders.
  5. Know that ultimately your employer does not care about you. By keeping this perspective you will take loads of weight off of your shoulders; however, keep in mind that I am dedicated to excellence and you should also be dedicated to excellence since it will help you as you move through different careers, and by being dedicated to excellence you are showing that you have pride in yourself—and, that is healthy and gives you confidence.
  6. Know that when the chips are down there are countless avenues to keep on a stiff upper lip—a good book; a great movie; listening to your favorite bands; going for a walk or hike; doing lunch or dinner with real family and/or friends; watching squirrels running amok; and so on.
  7. Volunteer in some way. It is good for those in need. It will give you a fresh perspective on your life. It will give you a sense of self-worth.
  8. Think of some challenge you have never conquered before and go out and see if you can win over that challenge.
  9. Know that you are not in competition with anyone else. The only person you have to be better than is the person you were yesterday. This knowledge will take loads of weight off of your shoulders.
  10. Go to a park and watch toddlers stumbling around as they are testing out their first steps and watch children playing.
